Together, Damon and Jana Helton of Lonsdale, AR, share a strong faith and a belief that things happen for a reason. So it’s no surprise that a few years ago a quiet Sunday drive down a previously unexplored country road set the stage for major life changes.
When a line of U.S. flags fluttering in the wind caught their attention, the patriotic pair felt compelled to turn onto a narrow road in Saline County. There, they came across a for-sale sign on 160 long-neglected acres along the Saline River. They weren’t looking to buy a farm, let alone change their lifestyle. Neither of them had any experience with farming. But something about the farm struck a nerve with the couple.
They bought the farm a year later with a formal plan for sustainable farming and enough grit to make it happen. The Helton's raise all-natural grass-fed beef, forested pork, and pastured poultry, along with free-range eggs. The Poultry and Pork are fed non-GMO feed.
The Helton’s believe that consumers should “Know their Farmer, and Know their Food.” It was their goal to provide a healthier food alternative for their four children. They extended that goal to their community by opening two Locally Centered Markets and a Farm to Table Café continuing the mission to educate all who are interested in their sustainable farming methods. – with many more plans for the future…
